Our speaker on November 16 was Anna Mae Kobbe, the Foundation Chairperson for District 7620. Anna-Mae served as District Governor in 2016-2017, and has had a variety of club and district committees. She gave an overview of the RI Foundation programs and plans.
The November 9 speaker, Tyler Hoblitzell , gave a lively talk to the club on what might be considered a dull topic—insurance regulations. Tyler covered a variety of topics from the viewpoint of the Maryland legislature, which writes legislation that regulates most types of insurance in Maryland, most notably health and auto insurance.
Last week’s speaker was not available, so we found a substitute…Larry Heilman, a member of the Metro Bethesda club who came by to do a makeup, volunteered to give a presentation on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which he worked on in the 1990s. NAFTA has been in the news lately after the Trump Administration replaced it with another agreement among Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. Larry, a retired senior foreign service officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development, discussed the original agreement, how it was negotiated, and how it has evolved over the years. Thanks, Larry!
